3 steps to building a great bunker!
| | | | | There are many different styles of bunkers, so naturally there are numerous ways to build them. The first thing to do is consult with different Architects and find one that you feel can best produce the results you're looking for, not only in the short term but also the long term.
Since the architect is responsible for the location of the bunkers, let's simply discuss process.
Step 1: List
Working from a design, you will need to generate a materials/equipment list. All material should be on site prior to the start of construction. I can't stress this enough, there is always the possibility of inclement weather which can cause washouts or delivery delays which result in a prolonged project. These dilemmas undoubtedly drive up the cost of the project and annoy patrons.
Step 2: Sequence
A well thought out construction sequence will save a significant amount of money, especially with labor and equipment rentals. To simplify the construction sequence: establish an access route; locate any cart-paths or buried items, such as pipe or electric lines, etc.and adjust route accordingly! Next comes the shaping of the feature, followed by topsoil, if necessary, then establishing a sand line and cutting the core. Once that's complete, interior/exterior drainage can begin. Any additional irrigation should follow. The final steps in the sequence are finish raking, sodding and repairing your access route.
Step 3: Grow-in
A proper grow-in is critical in establishing quality turfgrass. Take this process slow and it will reward you and your patrons for years to come! A note about Fluidity... Since no two projects are exactly the same it is imperative that you remain flexible. Often times, what appears at first to be a colossal blunder, results in a magnificent bunker.
